Cool Water Sports at Summer Camp

At camp, cooling off from the summer heat is just a dive into the lake away. However, campers often find that competition heats up faster on the water than it ever could on land. Not only does the water create the ideal place to perfect spins and flips on a wakeboard or skis, but the cool air on the lake also means that kids can stay engaged in their favorite sports for as long as they want without getting overheated. This summer get ready to enjoy taking part in one or all these cool water sports that are offered at camp.

Show Off Your Best Waterskiing Tricks

For many campers, summer camp is the only place to go to take professional lessons in waterskiing and wakeboarding that help them maintain their edge against the competition back home. During waterskiing lessons, kids start with basic skills such as learning to stand up and maintain their balance on the skis. It doesn’t take long for them to progress to new levels of skill that allow them to participate in competitions. From slalom racing to trick skiing, you can find where your skills shine in competitive waterskiing at camp.

Reeling in Some Fun at a Fishing Derby

Fishing may not look like a sport from the sidelines, but avid fishing fans know that it takes serious skill to bring in the big ones. With a lake stocked full of fish, it’s exciting to compete with your friends to find out who can catch the most or the biggest fish during a session. You can even learn a few new skills from your peers that help you when the next derby rolls around.

Hit Serious Levels of Speed in Kayak Races

Kayaking requires you to use all the muscles in your body to push the boat through water. And you never know how natural occurrences such as the water currents will affect a competition. Whether you go head-to-head against a competitor or enjoy working with a partner, getting your kayak to go faster gives you a goal to work toward all summer.

Get an Edge in Competitive Swimming

Camp is where you know you can go to become a stronger swimmer. With certified lifeguards coaching your lessons, you always feel safe in the water. Camp competitions often include swimming races that allow kids to compete against other campers near their age and skill level. Whether you go for speed or a specific stroke, these competitions allow you to develop yourself as a swimmer.

Compare Distances on the Tarzan Swing

Technically the Tarzan swing may not be recognized as a sport. However, that doesn’t mean that it holds no potential for some spontaneous competitions. From comparing distances that you can swing before you drop to how long you can hold on before letting go, you’d be surprised at just how many ways you can turn swinging into the lake into an exciting game. The best part is that everyone wins as they enjoy splashing in the cool natural water.

Engaging in water sports is one of the best ways to spend your summer days. Whether you love competitive swimming or just want to goof around on the Tarzan swing, spending time doing what you love the most and avoiding the heat creates a win-win situation that can’t be beaten.

The Incredible Island Life at Canadian Adventure Camp

Life on Lake Temagami means waking up every day to a new adventure. This summer, campers enjoyed a mix of new and traditional experiences that all add up to an amazing season. As you look back on the past several weeks, we hope that these are just a few of the unique activities that stand out.

MAKING MEMORIES AT CAMPCHELLA

This year’s Campchella event showed off the creativity of our campers and staff members. Together, we hosted one of the best music festivals that we’ve ever seen. And everyone loved showing off their dance moves in the Rave Cave.

Our staff got to show off their skills as DJs. And the kids all got a chance to enjoy an acrobatic performance in the Chill Out Lounge. Between all of the tie-dye, flower headbands and random dancing, this was one of our best events yet.

DANCING DURING MUSICAL LUNCH

At Canadian Adventure Camp, we’ve never understood why camp food has to be boring. In addition to the healthy and delicious food we serve every day, our campers enjoyed musical lunches that got them all in the mood for an awesome afternoon.

From singing around the table to playing instruments, everyone had a chance to join in on the fun. In fact, our staff reports that we heard quite a bit of singing outside of the dining hours as kids ran off to their activities in high spirits. We can’t help that our favorite camp songs are really quite catchy.

HITTING THE WAVES AT SKI POINT

Island life just isn’t…well…island life without some water play. While our lake is rather calm the majority of the summer, our campers still make waves as they pursue their favorite watersports.

Like every year, waterskiing and wakeboarding took center stage, and our campers learned how to perform gravity-defying flips and jumps that left onlookers breathless. Paddle boarding, sailing and tubing are just a few more daily adventures that everyone enjoyed on the gorgeous water.

HAVING BIG FUN AT THE BIG TOP

Sure, clowning around is a normal part of summer camp, but campers took this phrase literally this summer. While the kids at Ski Point were spending the day in their swimsuits, our specialty gymnastics group was literally changing their perspective by hanging upside down.

Our aerial silks and hoops allow campers to learn complicated acrobatic moves that are guaranteed to thrill an audience and even our littlest jumpers loved using our bungee harness to get accustomed to leaving the ground.

TAKING THINGS TO THE EXTREME

When on Lake Temagami, we’ve always taken to heart the concept of go big or go home. Our staff takes the usual summer water activities to extremes that heighten the fun. Our giant lake inflatables give kids the opportunity to bounce and splash in the lake while engaging in spontaneous competitions and we made an epic slip-and-slide this year that rivals any that you could ever see at home.

After a summer on Lake Temagami, the only regret that we have is that the warm season cannot last all year. After all, you just can’t beat waking up to a beautiful lakeside view every morning that inspires you to get up and seek out your next adventure.

Favorite Summer Camp Lake Activities

Filling up those long, summer days with fun is not hard when you have a lake nearby! Our amazing summer camp, located on Adventure Island, puts us in the perfect place for our campers to enjoy Lake Temagami.

During their time at camp, your children get to enjoy the beautiful sense of relaxation that the lake provides. We also use the campers’ time at the lake to teach valuable life-saving water skills.

We start each day with a morning dip that prepares everyone for a schedule that is filled with some of these favorite action-packed activities.

Wakeboarding

For many kids, there is nothing more awesome than doing a flip after gliding across the water on a wakeboard!

Wakeboarding beginners start their lessons off on land. There, they learn how to hold the correct stance and balance their weight properly. Soon after that, they are allowed to venture out on the water. With close supervision, it doesn’t take long for them to learn skills from our counselors, who all hold water safety certifications.

Water Skiing

This water sport is right up there with wakeboarding for the most popular requests from campers.

Water skiing also takes some time to master. The effort children put into their lessons pays off when they are able to perform cool tricks for their friends and family during visitor days. This is also a great summertime sport for children who also love snow skiing.

Kayaking

A kayak offers the perfect boat for children to learn how to use on the lake. Since the lake has mostly calm waters, younger children get a chance to practice their paddling skills without challenging rapids.

Kayaking is also another fun summer camp activity that children can continue to enjoy when they get home.

Canoe Trips

Canoes let more people climb on board, which just increases the fun. Group canoe trips require campers to learn how to paddle together. We find that this activity is great for team building.

Canoe trips are our favorite way to go on a longer lake adventure. Campers also love canoe races, showing off their skills and ability to work as a team.

Aquatic Trampolining

Aspiring gymnasts don’t have to spend all of their time in the gym. Although a state-of-the-art gymnastics facility is awesome, there are also times when it helps to get outside.

Inflatable water rebounders are the perfect outdoor substitute for traditional trampolines. Lake swimming also helps to strengthen gymnasts’ arms and legs, along with their core muscles.

Tubing

Tubing combines the perfect amount of adventure with relaxation for children who aren’t quite yet ready to do water sports standing up.

Since we always do what we can to achieve maximum fun, we have inflatables that go far beyond the traditional inner tube style. Our tandem tube lets children ride with their best friend. We also have a couch style that turns tubing into a luxury experience.

As you can see, the list of fun things that your children get to do at camp is endless. All of these summer camp activities also teach your child to value life lessons that cultivate a healthy interest in spending time outdoors.

This season, encourage your child to branch out and try something that they’ve never done before. They may just be the next big wakeboarding champion.
